A different kind of night life

This week, The Island Review contributor Amy Liptrot published a fascinating essay in Aeon magazine. Two years ago, escaping alcohol and a life in London, Amy returned to her childhood home in Orkney, where she's spent the past two summers counting the islands' corncrakes for the RSPB. She blends natural and personal history in the piece, and describes the pleasures and struggles of adjusting to a very different kind of night life.
