Hopes have been raised this week that Ailsa Craig, a small island in the Firth of Clyde, Scotland, may finally have found a new owner. The island has been on sale for two years, and its original asking price of £2.5 million has been reduced to £1.5 million. Ailsa Craig is home to the largest gannet colony in Europe and is an important breeding site for other species of seabird. It is believed the buyer is an environmental organisation, though the details have yet to be disclosed.
