Animal castaways

This week brought news of two very lucky cows, and one not-so-lucky monkey. The cows, a mother and calf, were discovered on a tiny island in Lough Breakey, County Meath, in Ireland. The mother, called Rambling Rose, had found her way to the island after falling in to the lough, and had given birth while stranded. After more than two months, her owners had given her up for lost. But after being spotted alive, a dramatic rescue took place this week.

Not so lucky, however, is a sad baboon known as Robinson, who has been stuck alone on an island in the Zambezi River for three years. All attempts to rescue him have so far failed, though his family still call to him every night from across the river. You can read more about this story by clicking here.
