Caught between two superpowers

The Cold War may be over, but for some people its effects are still being felt as strongly as ever. The border between America and Russia cuts right through a narrow channel of the Bering Strait that divides the island of Little Diomede from its neighbour Big Diomede. The former lies on the American side and is home to around 80 people; the latter houses a Russian military base. But that's not the whole story, as explained in a recent BBC report which tells of a powerless community torn apart through no fault of its own.
