For the past thirty years El Hierro, the smallest and most remote of the Canary Islands, has been working toward becoming energy self-sufficient. In the summer a unique new clean energy supply, powered by both wind and water, started being used, meaning that homes and businesses no longer have to rely solely on diesel imports.
