Flanagan’s Island‏

“Too much is made of place and environment. In the end, the landscape, the wonder, exists in the words you put down on the page.” In a simple wooden cabin on the verdant Tasmanian island of Bruny, the Australian writer Richard Flanagan works at a desk with only his pet parrot and current pile of reading for company. Having won the 2014 Man Booker prize for his novel The Narrow Road to the Deep North, it is clearly an effective strategy. Find out more from the writer himself on how the island inspires his work in this gorgeous and meditative video from The New Yorker.
