Gill Russell works across a range of forms and media, and often outside the gallery environment. She is interested in places of 'significance’ - mythological, geographical, poetic, historical, cosmic, sonic, technological, ancient - and how they resonate in the landscape.
Her recent practice has centred on walking, mapping, drawing and related poetic texts, focusing on watercourses that define the remote landscapes of the North West Highlands and islands of Scotland.
The work was first published on Gill's blog in a post entitled 'a watery threshhold: mapping the liminal'. The caption poem was written in collaboration with Alec Finlay.
