Residents of one Scottish island woke up earlier this month to find that they had disappeared from Google Maps. Apparently a technical glitch was at fault, and so far it has not been rectified. Fortunately, this vanishing act has not had serious consequences for the islanders, but already one senior Scottish politician has voiced his displeasure over the matter.
Jura, in the Inner Hebrides, is 141 square miles in total, and is home to around 200 people. It is also the island where George Orwell completed his novel 1984, shortly before his death.
The satellite picture below clearly shows the island of Jura where it ought to be, while the Google map shows only the name and what appears to be a road in the sea. To find out more about the strange disappearance, click on either image.
