The nation of Kiribati is predicted to begin sinking beneath the waves of the Pacific within the next 20 years. If it does so, it will be the first country to disappear as a result of climate change. Kiribati may be little more than a small gathering of 33 islands in the ocean, but it is home to more than 100,000 people, and its fate should be a warning to people and particularly to politicians the world over. Yesterday, international governments agreed to set emissions targets in 2015, but will any decision come too late for Kiribati?
